Does a cell phone send a gps location when you send a text message?

  • Answer:

Yes. Whenever a cell phone is turned on, in use or not, it can be tracked on GPS. That is how many police departments can locate kidnap victims. "Cell phones are two way radio transmitters that work by connecting to a nearby tower and exchanging data. Despite the FCC's limitation on maximum power output of a cell phone, they are still able to connect with towers miles away at UHF frequencies and produce enough RF power to supply those fancy replacement flashing antennas with energy. Because cell phones put out a constant RF output (sometimes pulsed) they can be tracked using the tower triangulation method where the network administrators can find your precise location with their administrative network access. yes. TDMA (Time Divisional Multi Access) CDMA (Code Divisional Multi Access) are the 2 major types of cell signals. Both transmit gps signals for billing and for safety. As well as for the police and federal agencies to see what's being sent and recieved.

Cell phones usually broadcast a signal that can be used to track it when it's turned on. Sending a text message is no different from talking on the phone - it converts it to digital data and transmits along wireless tower networks.

i don't think so, that sounds a little illegal or a huge invasion of privacy.

A txt msg, like a voice msg is in two parts. One part is the MWI (Msg waiting indicator) that is the little "envelope" that appears when you get either a voice mail or a txt msg on your cell phone. It is a tiny signal that travels over a different path than the actual msg itself. None of the gateways or storage devices have any GPS interfaces that would enable them to understand an embedded GPS location. So I say no. (Voice mail or txt msg are NOT the same as a real-time phone call, Slow Hand. Your phone calls can be traced, as per CALEA)

that totally depends on your network. Im positive Sprint and Cingular (AT&T) do. Ask Verizon or T-Mobile workers if you have one of their phones.
