How do phone upgrades work for AT&T?

If you could choose any mobile phone, which one would you choose?

  • I've just been offered 2 upgrades on my Orange mobile phone account, and I can have any phone in their product range for no cost, from the basic Nokias, to their Blackberrys. Although I like gadgets, I dont need a full blackberry because I have one from work (and they pay the data charges). I guess I want a phone that, as the younger generation would call, is bling, or at least looks great. I currently have a Sony K750, which is ok, but I dont mind changing to any other make, as the main use of the phone will be to call, text and occasionally use the internet to find the next train. From the selection of phones they show on www.orange.co.uk, I like the following (in no particular order): Nokia N73 Blackberry Pearl 8100 MOTORAZR maxx V6 Nokia 8800 Sirocco Sony K800i Sony z610i I've also seen phones (on other networks) such as - BenQ Siemens SK65 Note that I'm not restricted to Orange as a network, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi there Now for me I have a Sony Ericsson P990i and a W850i, both are great phones... P990i for gadget appeal and the W850 for music. In your case the Pearl is amazing, great phone but the Nokia N73 is the one out of your list that may suit you best. When you get the phone consider de-branding it and unlocking it... debranding makes every phone work better as it takes it back to the manufacturers standards instead of Oranges, did it to my P990 and its miles better. Good luck M

For bling appeal you always go with the 8800 Sirocco, it has practically nothing and is essentially a pretty dull phone, but when it came out was worth about £800 for a sim free version so its definately got street cred. Avoid Nokia N-Series phones as they have awful sofware problems (I spend most of my day listening to irate customers with N73's) Same goes for the RAZR's and the K800i (although sony assure us that its all fixed now ... I havent confirmed that). As you already have a blackberry then the pearl wont be very exciting for yourself. Personally I would go for the 8800 for pure credibility (youll look like youre loaded to anyone that knows phones) or the Z610i ... 3G phone that does almost everything and very sexy to boot! But in the end, whatever feels right to you.

I would personally go for the n73 as nokia is always easy to use and easy to get hold of spare accesories and chargers etc. as well as having a Symbian operating system for easily downloaded apps however for your specifications the k800i beside for being a good phoneis a very good choice seeing as you have a sony now. Best of luck!

samsung e900 brill also benQ depends on what you want from your phone

I would go for the new LG "SHINE" It has the bling factor. It is one of the nicest looking phones on the market at the minute. Take a look at one and see what you think. Sorry i know this one is not on your list but it is worth taking alook at Trust me!!!

having worked for a mobile network until recently i would have to say the K800i, yes it did have software issues early on but those have been resolved, from past experience i would stear clear from motorola, i had a V600 and needed 8 replacements in 18 months then i bought the razr and took it back within 7 days as it was faulty and what you dont realise is if your phone is replaced its not a brand new phone but a refurbished phone and wil the v600 i had the same fault time and time again. I now have the Samsung D600 and am about to upgrade to the D900 and they are both good phones that do pretty much everything and easy to use, can you not have a samsung, as a loyal customer if there is a specific phone you are after ask for it usually they will try and acomadate

I would say the Sony Ericsson k800i. This is a brilliant phone. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera and cybershot which is also a feature of sony digital cameras. Do not go for the BenQ Siemens. Siemens are not makers of phones and their range is rubbish! The sony W850i and w880i are also good phones if you want to use it for walkman/ipod capabilities.

As you already have a phone that does everything you don't need another one of those. You should get a Nokia 8800 sirocco. That phone is the best for street credibility and bling bling. It's worth £700 at present and will not go down for some time. Take a look at the first one (8800). Even once you're bored of the phone and decide to sell it, you'd still get £300+ for it. Not bad for something that you got for free! I wanted the sirocco but am not willing to pay for it and do not want to stay with orange because their bills always seem to be so high!
