Why the iPod is called as iPod what does the "i" mean?

Questions on jailbreaking itouch and ipod touch(2nd Gen.)?

  • I've been curious about jailbreaking the itouch but I'm not sure what it is exactly. What's the difference between all those versions 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5, 2.0.1? Does it mean if you have that version you can only download apps specific to that version. If you jailbreak to any version does it mean that you can now download any package. On the itunes apps store, most apps require something like 2.0 firmware, does it mean a person with a first gen(1.1.2-1.1.5) touch has to upgrade to that 2.0? Ok so I've just bought the new 2nd generation Ipod touch and I was reading up on jailbreaking. First thing I'd like to know if is there any available jailbreak for the new ipod. I saw something called quickpwn but I'm not sure if it works with first gen or 2nd gen itouch. I do see jailbreaks for ipod touch 2.1, which is the default version of the itouch 2G. If it does say that there is a jailbreak for ipod touch 2.1 does it only refer to the itouch first generation or would it work for both versions of itouch. Also when a site says jailbreak for 2.1 does it mean jailbreaking to that version or from that version.

  • Answer:

There's no way you can jailbreak your ipod touch 2G yet. It's got different hardware than the old ipod touch and apple has fixed all the problems that allowed hackers to jailbreak the old ipod touch. Hopefully someone will be able to do that.

Other answers

First of all the only difference between versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc is in my perspective is more apps run on the newest version (2.2) for example if in the itunes store it says in the app description for iphone and ipod touch 2.0 or somthing like that then the app will only work on 2.0 or above if you got a 2nd gen then you probably have 2.2 also you may not be clear about jailbreaking <" " allows you to have a different interface and 3rd party apps (not from apple or on itunes store) Secondly there is no current jailbreak for the second generation ipod touch (although many projects are being developed). However with first generations any software version can be jailbreaked (excluding 2.2 which I suspect will come out soon). Finally like I said earlier jailbreaking does not change the software version it Changes the OS/interface so if a site says jail breaking for 2.1 then it is (currently) for 1rst gen touch's and software version 2.1.
