What exactly is the difference between house music and techno?

So what exactly is the difference between House, Trance and Techno music?

  • I have always wondered...

  • Answer:

Simple. House is THE sh*t. Trance IS sh*t. Techno is for people that don't know house exists. But heres my non bias answer, House Music pretty much derived from disco. It's typically about 120 bpm, with a 4/4 sequence. The beat is maintained by a heavy kick drum that alternates in a 1-3 pattern with a high hat accent. It's really chill music, something to listen to while on a drive in the morning or just chilling with some friends. It's also great to dance to in house clubs or at parties. Its more of a shake your a*s type of dance. Trance is more characterized by a slightly faster tempo, (typically 140-155 bpm) Trance also has a more "electronic" sound to it. Trance is the music you think of when you picture an acid trip. Its great if you're a kid who thinks its cool to go get completely f*cked up on drugs and have a "crazy trip", but in actuality, trance music lacks organization. When you dance to trance (and you really shouldn't), you can do whatever the hell you want because you look stupid enough since you like trance in the first place. Oh wait, I'm sorry, this isn't supposed to be bias.. well put it this way, take a few hits of acid, and you'll know how to dance to trance. And techno pretty much is mainstream electronic music. Its what you hear on the radio or in clothing stores. If it is a song like sandstorm by darude that everyone knows, it's techno.
