How to downgrade ipod touch?

i need to downgrade my ipod touch to 4.0 and i am on 4.1 i downloaded the filmware i wanna downgrade too but after i hit shift and restore and choose ipod touch 2g 4.0 restore it says the filmwares do not match up and it doesnt work. does anyone know how to fix this or has it happened to you. p.s.i have an ipod touch 2g with 4.1 update
