  Let me save you 9 hours of research. Blackra1n is the ONLY useful tool for your new 3G. Yes, it is tethered and there is no other jailbreak at this time for the ipod touch 3g's. I tried them all! I also tried to downgrade my firmware to 2.2.1, 2.2, 3.0. No dice. You'll get an error every time. Just ask the tens of thousands of people that have been trying to do it. You'll get error 20's error 1600's, etc. But, there is hope on the horizon in the form of GreenPois0n: http://greenpois0n.com/. It's in the development stage still and apparently won't be ready until next June 2010. This will be the first untethered Tool for the ipod touch 3g. Until then, you can jailbreak away with Blackra1n, but when you turn it off, be prepared to dock your device and rerun the tool every time you boot up.
