How do I make ringtones and convert them to m4r for my iphone?

How the f**k do you make ringtones on itunes?!?

I WANT A RINGTONE FOR MY IPHONE PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE :) I hate the boring ringtones, and everyone has the same "strum" one anyway :/ I've tried all the google methods of making the aac file or whatever, and then renaming it .m4r etc but I can't get it to show up as a ringtone, no matter which song I choose, or how I rename it! It just reverts back to normal I think. Please help!! :D thanks a bunch!

Easy way is to use a free stand alone program like iRinger(Google it) as that allows you to edit the music to make the ringtone then uploads it to iTunes so it is ready next time you sync. Then there is Ventones but it means faffing around uploading then downloading the tune so takes time.

You do realize you have to pay for a ringtone on iTunes, even afteryou have purchased it. Right click and make ringtone.
