How to move songs from an iPod to a computer?

How do I move my iTunes library from one computer to another or keep all my songs on my iPod without erasing ?

  • How do I move my iTunes library from one computer to another or keep all my songs on my iPod without erasing all the songs already on my iPod? **My old computer does not work!

  • Answer:

All you have to do is transfer the music you have on your ipod to your library. That way when all your music in your ipod is deleted , you'll have a safe copy of your content on you computer. You need a iPod to computer transfer to help you backup all the things on your ipod to your computer. http://www.ipod-to-computer.net/ipod-to-computer.html ☆★▪◇→☺

If you have access to your iTunes library you can backup your library to disc - in iTunes go to the File menu, go down to the Library option in that menu, and select backup to disc. From your post it sounds like that might not be an option. If you can access your old library you'll also want to de-authorize that computer so that it doesn't count that library as one of your 5 permitted licenses for downloaded songs. You can do that from the "Store" menu at the top of the screen in iTunes. If getting the music off your old computer isn't an option, you can transfer the music off of your iPod and onto your computer. Since you are plugging your iPod into a different computer it will recognize that it is a different library so it won't delete what is currently on your library. The latest version of iTunes usually will recognize songs purchased from the iTunes store and will offer to transfer them into the new library. If that doesn't work or for songs not purchased from the iTunes store, there are directions below. iPods are set up to make it difficult to transfer music back to your computer from your iPod (to prevent piracy probably) however you don't need a special software program or anything to do it. It's actually pretty simple to make the transfer if you know how to do it. * First you need to display the hidden folders. The folder containing your music on your iPod is set to hidden to make it harder to access, but if you change the settings on your computer to allow those folders to display it will appear. Making the hidden folders visible won't cause problems on your computer. To make them visible varies a bit based on your operating system (you can always run a search on Yahoo for "show hidden folders in (your operating system here)", but generally for Windows if you go to the control panel, and click on Folder Options on the "View" tab of the window that displays there will be an option that says "Show hidden files and folders" (you may have to scroll down to find it). Just select that option and click OK. *Once your computer is set to show hidden folders access your iPod through "My Computer". Double click on your iPod to open it, and there will be a folder in there named something like "Music". *Copy this folder to your computer, wherever is convenient for you and remember where it is stored. *Go into iTunes and import the music into iTunes. Under the "File" menu there will be a couple options - Import File and Import Folder. Import File lets you import songs one at a time and Import Folder will take a whole folder of songs at one time. Use these to import all of your music and then sync your iPod to your newly re-created library and you're set to go.

First you select resume on your iPod in iTunes and then check the box saying manage music and videos manually. That way you can delete or add the songs individually and not syncing them by play lists, you just drag it to your iPod icon.By doing this you wont have to sync the iPod to any computer and you'll be able to tranfer songs from any computer without deleting the ones you already have!! Good Luck!!

If you download new songs, then try to put them on your ipod, something should pop up warning you not to. Then I think it'll ask you if you want to download songs from your ipod to itunes.
