How to maintain organized mp3 music? Can ipod and Sansa Fuze co-exist?
-
About 2 years ago I created one folder, "my music" and then created sub-folders for different types of music. That worked out pretty good. It did take some time but was great to have the mp3's organized in windows folders only--no itunes and no windows media player, etc. One thing I noticed is that the sub-folders have morphed into album covers. That is pretty cool. In the meantime I down loaded a few things from limewire and frostwire (all older stuff I already own on vinyl, 8-tracks and cassettes, of course, so legal fair use) and Amazon mp3. When I was on top of things, I would drag the new stuff out of the lime/frostwire folders and put it into my different folders. Unfortunately I neglected some of those which wouldn't be a problem except I now have a meager itunes account for my daughter. Here is what happened; I sent some of the stuff in the lime/frost folders directly to itunes. Now, if I try to move any of that to my "organized" folders, itunes will lose the path to the music the next time I sync for her. I really don't mind the time it takes to organize things but it seems I can't keep up with it. I also keep a backup copy on another drive, another separate computer, an external drive and even a thumb drive and need to update these once a year. I know it sounds redundant having that much but just recently the "my music" file has become very, very slow to react when I try to do anything within the folder. The external 1tb drive has proved invaluable. Oh, I don't have that much music, only about 6 gb total. For music on the go I have a couple Sansa clips and Fuze, so I am sort of leaning towards Windows media player for organizing play lists, etc I am not very good at using windows media player yet. So, here is the status and questions: I have a bunch of files and I like that organization structure-- (50's ,60's, 70's, 80's, 90's,punk, new wave, classical, easy listening, etc. 1) how can I get the music downloads to go to a file system without a lot of work? And it seems like if I change anything it messes up the portable mp3 players play lists. BTW, Sansa players work off drag/drop, copy/paste and windows media player play lists. 2) how does windows know where to find and apply those album cover pics? I don't want to lose those things--wherever they came from. I am not adverse to purchasing a program that would help out but REALLY want to stay away from having everything in itunes because I won't be able to transfer it to the Sansa's or my new bundle of joy, on its way; a ZUNE 32gb (yes, I am a gluten for punishment). I would appreciate any ones help or even constructive criticism, and if there is anything that needs to be more clear, I will check back for answers periodically. Thanks.
