What does it mean to jailbreak your iPod touch?

What does it mean when you "Jailbreak" your iPod Touch????

  • I might be getting an iPod Touch eventually, but the price is pretty steep. Anyways, I've seen people on youtube posting vids showing you how to "jailbreak" your touch, but what does it really mean???? Is it necessary????

  • Answer:

It is not necessary but it is abosolutely worth the time to do it! It is basically hacking into your iPod in order to instal third party applications. This allows you to customize your ipod, and download many games and 'softwares'. It turns your ipod into a miniature laptop pretty much. You can install a notepad, msn/aim, ecess your computer through your ipod, play the piano/guitar/drums, have dictionaries, flashcards, etc.

"Jailbreaking" your iPod touch essentially means that you hack into it so that you can add applications that aren't necessarily from Apple. You can add games and some iPhone applications, for example. It's not necessary, but it's useful. There are no games for the iPod Touch on iTunes, for example. And you can add a whole lot of useful (and useless) stuff. Hope I helped!

a jailbroken ipod is a modification that allows you to add third party applications you can do this by downgrading to firmware 1.1.1 and going to appsnapp or if you have firmware 1.1.3+ you can download a program called ziphone. Its not a difficult process if you find the right info i would very highly recommend Using youtube for guides.
