What do I do if USB ports don't recognize devices?

My computer will recognize other usb devices but not my ipod!?

My computer will recognize other usb devices but not my ipod!? i can plug in my camera to my computer (via usb) and my computer has no problem with it. but i then try to plug in my ipod nano and nothing happens.i have tried all the usb ports i have and i am really confused because i was able to plug my nano in with no problem the morning i got it then later that day it just stoped working. to my knowledge nothing was broken or damaged on the cord and my nanos fine because i can plug it into my ihome just fine. please help. how do i go about fixing this? would a usb cord be covered in the warranty?
