What is wrong with my stereo?

• I have a philips stereo in my house. It is a couple years old. It has no waranty and it is broke. I plug it in and it is in standby mode(off) but the power light is flickering and the back of the stereo is making a clicking noise. Then I turn it on and it goes on for about 4 seconds and then goes out.(all while the clicking noise is going on and the display is dim and kind of flickering.) I want to fix it but I dont know what is wrong with it. A local repair shop shop said it would cost $30 for an estimate and if I got it repaired,that $30 would get credited to the bill. Does anybody know whats wrong or have an idea? And if I get it fixed professionally(if it needs that),how much would that approximately cost?

  Not really sure what's wrong with your stereo. If there's a clicking sound there may be a problem with a moving part, maybe a cd turntable if your stereo has one. To be honest, if its an all in one deal that cost you $100 or less, it may have just died on you. Typically, repairs of this nature end up costing about the same as purchasing a new sterero. It may be shady, but electronics companies nowadays are more interested in you purchasing another product a couple years down the line then building something that's going to last and ultimately keep you out of the store for a greater period of time.
