How does wifi on the ipod touch work?

  • hi, im getting an ipod touch as a gift from a friend i just have question about the wifi... how does it work? as in do i have to have wifi... i have internet at home and computer so i dont need it at home but if i was out walking to work or school would wifi connect to anyones area around or something? idk how it works so please explain... thank you

    there are 3 ways to access the internet and download files on a mobile network... what you are thinning of is 3G. When using 3G... the device gets its information from satellites. only the iphone and other cell phone have this. the ipod doesn't. the ipod touch uses 2G. it gets its info from a wireless signal coming from a router. the ipod picks this signal up and uses to get to the internet. you will only be able to use this near a router with signal of 2-3 bars(shown on the ipod) you can't get this outside. the last is 1g this is LAN line or broadband. the computer is hooked up to an ethernet cable, which is attached to a router. download info using these cables. all WiFi stuff is under settings on your touch. when using WiFi (2G) and your not at McDonald's it is free. But make sure that the network is unlocked or youll need a password to use it. I fyou are near someone's house with a WiFi conecton... you may be able to intercempt the signal... thats like a 7% chance

You DO NOT have to pay for internet on your touch. If you're in an area with a strong enough wifi signal, your ipod will connect automatically, or you can access it under "settings." The signal needs to be a bit stronger than what is needed for a laptop, so you probably won't get internet everywhere.

you need your house to be wifi but if you are just walking down the street, it wont connect. but if you are say, sitting on your driveway, you might get wifi, but it would probably be weak. if you are passing someone's house who has wifi, your ipod will ask to connect but most people have their wifi locked.

their a button that turns the wifi off/on if you leave it on and you not on web it can drain your battery pretty fast. basically you turn the wifi on it will look for a wifi signal if it not password protected you can connect to it. and go on the web email youtube etc.

I have an I phone and I think it would be the same. you have to go to : settings and turn your wi-fi on. When you are around wi-fi connection it will pop up on your screen and you can accept to use it or not.

tohave wifi compatability you must know the wifi password unless it doesnt have 1.Since u do not have 2 pay for internet on touch its fair how on the iphone u have 2 pay tho u can get internet access anywhere~!

You need to connect it to a Wi-Fi network, which could be a hotspot or a connection from your router. You can buy routers at Best Buy.

u cant connect ur ipod to the internet without having a wireless modem. (if ur cabled, it wont work) u got 10% of chances finding an internet connection while walking
