try going to the wesite for the brand of the player and there download the latest firmware for it, that will solve your problems, this happened to me with my RCA Lyra RD2780, i went to RCA.com and it turned out i had an outdated firmware version, i upgraded it and i was good to go.

Hello there, can you try to go to website of MP3 player and ask them their advice. I think that sometimes there is a way to recover but mostly it won't work. I wish you luck. It's awful to lose so much music..grim!
