How many songs can an 8gb ipod hold?

It depends on the encoding method used. The standard for MP3 is 128kbps, which comes out to about 1MB per minute of music. If your average song is about 4 minutes long, that means 8GB is about 2000 songs.

Alot ! Any way mp3 format 1 song can be from 3 mb to 5 mb. But different different format have different file size 1mb = 1024 kb 1 Gb = 1024mb so 8 Gb = 8192 mb let say if 1 song is 5mb you can save 1640 songs But you can check by right clicking on the songs and go to properties and then click on general tab in the middle you'll see " size " and on the top in the bar you can see the type of format in which the song is. e.x. abc.mp3 or abc.wmv or abc.wma etc

That depends. Is it new? Can it hold video? Does it have any pictures on it? If it is empty, probably between 500-1,00 songs. that's just an estimate, though. Good luck. PS I would recommend "the Fray". They are amazing!!

Well, I can't exactly answer but let me put it into perspective: My iphone has 900 songs, 300 photos, and a handful of applications, and still has 3.5 GB free (its an 8GB phone) - so I'd wager to say 2500-3000 songs would not be a stretch.

I have a 4 GB and I have a little over 1100 songs and it's almost full. So i'm assuming an 8 GB would hold roughly 2300
