I'll make this as quick as possible. To hook up subs to an amp in your car, you need to run a large gauge wire (usually 8 or lower, and these are found in amplifier kits) from you car battery to your amp, and boom: you have power to your amplifer. Ohm is a unit of resistance for electrical currents. (OHM is also referred as Impedance and is symbolized by a Greek letter that looks like headphones.) Now, Amplifiers and subs/speakers can all run at varying ohms, it just depends on how you hook them up. The most common sub out on the market is a single voice coil (SVC) 4 ohms sub. You can also buy subs with dual voice coils (DVC). Dual voice coil subs are made for the purpose of doubling the options for hooking a sub up in terms of ohms. Since ohms is a measure of resistance, the lower the ohm number, the more power you can get out of an amp. Most amps can run 2, 4, 8, 16 ohms, while you can get some that run at 1 ohm I suck at explaining but i'll refer using 4 ohm subs One 4 ohm SVC sub can be wired at 4 ohms. Two 4 ohm SVC subs can be wired at 2 ohms or 8 ohms. One 4 ohm DVC sub can be wired at 2 ohms or 8 ohms. Two 4 ohm DVC subs can be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohm. There are tons of combinations for wiring. I suggest you check out RF's woofer wizard, it makes things a lot easier. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp

you can get a dual 4ohm voice coil sub and wire it to be 2 ohms or 8 ohms. you can get two 4 ohm VC subs which would be better with a 2 channel amplifer because you can wire them in 8 ohms per sub and then wire them in series to get a four ohm load for a 2 channel bridged amp 2 dual 4ohm subs can be a 1 ohm load or a four ohm load; two 4ohm subs can be a 2 ohm load or an 8 ohm load
