How to connect my sony speakers to my ipod?

Model no of speakers is ss-VX7A. There are two switches red and black with a +,- sign , there is a wire attached to each of these switches 0.o Any idea ?

Those speakers are from a bookshelf stereo system. They need an amplifier/receiver with speaker jacks to do anything. In that setup, the iPod would also be connected to the amplifier/receiver.
