  • Answer:

Maybe you should think of it as a legal disclaimer... Cydia wasn't created to host hacked AppStore apps. Cydia is a place for programmers to share their work which isn't approved for listing on the Apple AppStore. There are many great JailBreak apps that are free, and they are many which aren't free. While many think of Jail-Breaking as 'illegal', others think of it as just 'unofficial' & 'unsupported'. It's how you are using your jailbroke iPhone that determines if your actions are illegal or not. A name you may see a lot in Cydia is BigBoss. BigBoss makes apps which aren't supported by Apple and aren't allowed in the AppStore, however they are the work of himself and the community, they are not stolen. Hackulo is differnet from many other repos by the fact that Hackulo is for the sole purpose of downloading/installing copyrighted work. Hackulo provides apps which allow you to 'crack' your AppStore apps, which makes them unidentifiable (they aren't tied to you anymore). After the app is cracked you can share it with others who have installed another Hackulo app called 'miPatch' or 'AppSync'. miPatch & AppSync installs a cracked version of Apple's Mobile Installation framework. Once miPatch is installed it allows you to install 'cracked' AppStore apps that others may have paid for, which you downloaded for free. Saurik (creator of Cydia) isn't the police, which is why he's not going to stop you. Just remember that he is also a programmer who doesn't want to be ripped off, himself. This is probably why he recommends "moral introspection and caution." Perhaps a 'cautious' way to use hackulo would be using for the purpose of testing out an expensive app before you buy it-- use your own judgment. Chances are you won't get arrested. Downloading mp3s & movies from the web using Lime Wire, Bit Torrent, etc. is illegal, but you're not in jail are you? If you like the song, if you like the movie, if you like the app--- please pay for it. Just be 'cautious' when using hackulo so your soul may not rot away with greed.
