How will i know if i need a outdoor antenna for hdtv?

Do i need a expensive HD antenna for my 1080P HDTV (it has a built in digital tuner)?

  • I ordered a TV online and I havent got it yet. The TV i bought has a Built-in digital tuner: (ATSC/NTSC/Clear-QAM) Can anyone tell me what kind of antenna i will need to watch local Over the air channels.? I went to www.antennaweb.org and it said i need a small multidirectional antenna and most of the channels were Yellow UHF, a few were yellow VHF. Will i need to buy a expensive antenna? or can i buy a cheap priced one? THANK YOU VERY MUCH I APPRECIATE IT the Tv is a 50 inch samsung plasma pn50a550

    If your local TV transmitters are more than 20 miles away, an outdoor antenna would be best. Second best is if you locate it in the attic. Signal strength can easily be cut by 60 to 75% inside a house vs outside. No usually the newer model TV's shouldn't require a high power antenna... only if you are located in a bad area where RF waves are blocked by mountains. Outdoor antenna, goes on teh outside of the House on top of the roof and the indoor goes on top of the TV...

You do not need an expensive antenna for HD. I would recommend an outdoor antenna mounted as high up as possible. I have had no luck with indoor antennas. With a digital signal you are either going to get a picture or not.

Go to radio shack, but the VU-190 if they still sell it, put it in the attic and wire it up to your TV. You will get everything within a 100 miles of what its pointed at.

no, any rabbit ears work, jus plug in and scan from your digtal tuner...but u really need to get hd cable to get all the nice channels,
