How to get rid of old TVs?

How do I get my 3-D glasses from the government after the TVs go 3-D on Feb 22?

  • I know that all the TVs will turn in to 3D-TV on Feb 22, but I keep getting mixed info about where how to get my glasses. I overheard a woman at church say that you had to get a special coupon from the government, but then the other day, I heard a commercial saying that the grocery store had them for free and you could just pick them up. What is going on here? I don't even care if my tv is in 3-D... personally, but I guess that if the govt. says that 3-D TV is better, who am I to argue? Thanks for your help!

  • Answer:

You will not need 3-D glasses at all. If you subscribe to cable TV or satellite dish TV you do not need to do anything. Your TV set will work the same way as it does now. If your TV set is a newer model with digital tuner (ATSC tuner) you do not need to do anything. For a TV set or HDTV set without digital tuner and also reception using an antenna, you will need to buy a digital TV converter box. It connects up to your TV set much the same as a VCR. The government issued coupons advertised on TV to give you $40. off on the cost of a converter box are sold out. If you want to you can hold off on buying the converter box hoping that the nationwide digital TV conversion will be delayed and hoping you can continue to watch TV by doing nothing at all until coupons are available again.

Actually get the 4-D glasses. . .it's better because the 3-D doesn't include "real time," but the 4D does, and you'll be able to see everything as it's happening hope this answers your questions!

Perhaps you're confused with the 3D glasses for the Superbowl....but here's the secret: Dont listen to all those other guys. I had the same question a while back and it took me a long time to find out the answer. According to the Feds. they give you a coupon that you have to redeem at Circuit City stores, The WIZ stores, or Ultimate Electronics Stores. This coupon gives you 2-D glasses which you have to plant and water for one week until it grows and bears branches with 3-D glasses. If you are lucky you can get >4 pairs of glasses per coupon.

Well, the government is not making TV go 3-D anytime in the near future, they are simply forcing all TV station to stop broadcasting in analog signals and use digital signals to free up the air waves for emergency purposes. You should only be worried if you use an antennae to get your television, then you need a coupon to go to your local electronics store i.e. Best Buy, etc... and get a digital TV converter. If you get cable from a company like Comcast then do not worry. The 3-D glasses you may have heard of are for the Super Bowl tonight. This transition is on February 17 by the way.

You're not serious are you? I personally think you are a prankster and doing this so you can see who will answer and what they'll say but in case you are really "special" then here is your answer. The TV broadcasts are going digital not 3-D read the sites below for an in-depth description I just re-read your addition to original post. If you are using an antenia then you will NOT be able to get any TV channels no matter what. If you don't have cable or the DTV box sorry ...nothing will come in.
