What if LCD has sound but no picture?

My lcd has no picture but sound works ?

  • sanyo lcd tv .. picture comes on for about 3sec's and then go's off .. sound still works .. i can see the picture with a flashlight .. my online research says backlight inverter master .. the backlight inverter master humm's when i Power on the tv but only for the few seconds that the picture is on , when the pic go's out the hummming stops .. also if i take the inverter out and power the tv on .. there is no 3 sec pic or humm .. so i do know that the humm is the inverter .. i bought a used inverter .. it hummed also . so im guessing it was bad to .. so i sent it back an am waitting on another one .. so is ther anyone that knows tv's am i right and it is the inverter or am i wasteing money ??

    Your back light is fried/about to be fried. You can see the picture because the flashlight is acting as a back light, but not as good of the back light as the one that came with it (obviously). you need to make sure the power supply is ok when the power is on you need to test all rail voltages from the power supply and also if the filter caps are doing there job. the inverters on the sanyo also have fusable resistors that need to be checked. i believe on the sanyo the inverter output voltage is 24 v dc so need to make sure this or ay other voltages going to the inverter pcb is present, HOWEVER dont overlook a faulty backlight itself, when a fault is detected by the micro it will either shut down the chasis or turn certian parts off. and are you wasting your money being a sanyo parts are cheap enough but yes without having other parts on hand to swap and test could be easier to buy another lcd
