What is the best gaming HDTV?

  • I've been looking around a little bit and I want to save up for a HDTV. I'm getting a PlayStation 3 soon and I want to make use of the Blu Ray player and HD graphics so what kind of TV should I get? I want something between 40 and 46". I heard the Sharp Aquos was really good but has a lot of problems and you should get the extended warranty and if that's the case then what else can you recommend?

At that size, Samsung or Sony. They are your friend. At that size, Samsung 6 series or higher. For Sony, V or W series will be great, if you want to go higher with Z or XBR that's cool too, but might not be necessary. Basically, at that size of TV resolution matters. So you want a 1080p TV with a native 1920x1080 resolution. You will potentially notice the subtleties/advantages of going 1080p at those sizes, so it would be a good idea to spend for that. Also at that TV seize, you want a good refresh rate to help overcome the inherent flaws of LCD. So get a TV that is 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate. Alternatively, a 2ms response time would do the trick as well, but I think in a TV you're more likely to find a 120Hz TV than a 2ms response time one. Now all that being said, you could trump all of those things and switch technologies. Get a plasma and you get better colors, blacks, and contrast. Also motion playback is not an issue, as its refresh is near instantaneous. There are myths related to plasmas and gaming like burn-in, but those are a thing of the past as long as you get a decent brand. Also condition the TV by cranking the contrast and brightness down for the first 100-200 hours (then optimize and enjoy). For brands, I would try to stay with Panasonic. At 42" or 46" plasma, you'll get the best bang for the dollar from one of their sets. Something like a S1 or G10 series set (2009 #'s, 2008's would be PZ80/85 and PZ800/850). Really you just want the 1080p set is all. The rest will just look wicked no matter what. If for any reason Panasonic doesn't do it for you, then I'd go with a Samsung Plasma.

sorry to disagree w/ you italian man but samsung has it in the bag just go w/ a samsung 650 series for optimal gaming experience or if your on a budget you can live w/ a samsung 530 they are really great tv's both just so you know when you buy a sony you will get a samsung screen in it o and for going to the best buy part i say you should see their reviews because so far they are doing horrible in customer service places i would recommend is fry's sears and places like that where they still get commission they tend to be more helpful

i'm getting a 46" Sony BRAVIA 1080p 60Hz LCD T.V. for 1,299.99 + TAX at Best Buy. if you want you can get this or a 46" Sony BRAVIA 1080p 120Hz LCD for 1,799.99 + TAX. it's a tie between the Sony or a Samsung, go to http://www.bestbuy.com/ see it's 500 bucks more just because of a faster refresh rate, the first one goes on a refresh rate of standard T.V.'s. hope i helped, i'm going to buy the first one because my dad likes it he doesn't want me to spend 500 bucks more for a refresh rate.
