Random free HD cable in the 100+ channels?

Would this TV convert normal digital cable channels to HD size?

  • I am looking into buying this Phillips TV http://www.buy.com/prod/philips-47pfl5603d-27-47-widescreen-1080p-lcd-hdtv-29000-1-dynamic/q/loc/111/206928664.html but want to know for sure that the tuner that it comes with will convert my normal non-HD channels I get through my cable box in HD size. I understand that the quality might not be 100% HD, but I at least want the ratio of a normal 16:9 widescreen converted, instead of the HD ready monitors that only stretch the image and distorse it. Thanks for your answers.

  • Answer:

Every HDTV will scale any input signal to its native resolution. Most TVs have special "Aspect" or "zoom" options to scale a 4:3 to a variety of 16:9 options (stretch, smart stretch, etc.)
