Can you tell if an hdmi cable is bad?

My HDMI cable won't work on my TV. Can someone tell me what's wrong?

  • The HDMI cable works on my TV upstairs, but not on the TV downstairs. On the downstairs TV i have Sky+HD (if that makes a difference) and on the upstairs just plain freeview. Why wont it work?? and maybe a solution?

  • Answer:

You are sure you are on the right input on your TV? Also be sure that you have it plugged in to the right place on the TV and the cable box.

and of you connect the Freeview box with that cable, to the TV downstairs ?? it may not be the cable. If it works one place (upstairs) it will work anywhere,. It will probably be the TV... it has to negotiate for media encryption OR you have not selected the correct HDMI input (?) You would normally see a sign on logo or negotiating/scanning notice and then it go blank - when you power up the Sky box (TV should be on 1st). Even if the negotiation fails.

Make sure both HDMI in and ouputs are correct...
