Why can't I duplicate laptop's screen to HdTv?

Connecting hdtv to laptop?

  • I'm trying to connect a laptop to the tv through VGA-hdmi and tried vga to composite connectors. Ive tried connecting on 2 different laptops one with windows 7 and other with vista, and a desktop with Windows 7 the computer recognizes and re-adjusts its screen resolution but wont show anything on the tv when put on the corresponding channel. I put them to 1280x1024 and still nothing. i have multiple monitors enabled through the "extend these displays" or "duplicate these displays" options. any help is appreciated.!

  • Answer:

Well, you cannot do that! All the video ports on your HDTV are input ports. That means the video signal is coming in and not out. Unless you have a port that states “video out” on your HDTV (which I have yet to see) you will not be able to transmit video out of your TV via cable. However if your are trying to record the TV with laptop this might help: http://flatpaneltvinfo.com/record_tv_with_laptop.php
