Where is FiOS in Philadelphia?

Is Verizon Fios worth it?

  • My family is about to get a new entertainment system (TV, surround sound, blue ray, etc.) and we want to get a new TV provider to go with it. At the moment we have Dish Network, which we completely hate. We have had it for about 5 years now and we have just had too many problems with it. We are looking at getting Verizon Fios when it comes in our area (which it might not even be for a while anyway), however we are not sure if it is the best choice. My uncle says that after a month of having it, he had to get rid of it. He said that the TV would go out a lot and the service was terrible. He said other things, but I honestly forget what haha. But I want to get some other people's opinions. Is Fios a good provider? From the commercials and ads, they make it seem like it is the best thing ever, but my Uncle says other wise. What do you guys think of it? Should I get it, and if not, what provider should I get instead of it? If we don't get Fios, we are probably going to get Direct TV, but if there are better providers out there, let me know. Thanks! =) Also, if this matters, we live about an hour outside of Philadelphia, PA.

  • Answer:

I've had FIOS for years. Their HD broadcast quality is better than any other provider due to the fact that they use fiber optic and don't compress their signals. The internet is fast and very reliable. We have their digital phone landline also. All work great. They charge extra for each box and any premium services, like movie packages, etc. They normally have very good prices for new customers for a year, but add in the boxes and any higher tier of services you want, like extra channels or faster internet, etc. Their customer service is terrible, horrible and grossly annoying. And they have frequent billing errors, so you have to be a patient person and check your bills every month. Overall, the best quality services I've ever had aside from their billing and customer service.

satellite is only one way.. satellite is subject to problems in cloudy or bad weather.. not sure what your cable provider choices are in your area (time warner, comcast, etc) you may want to compare FiOS offerings to your local cable provider.. cable and FiOS both offer a 2 way experience, allowing on demand purchases, and other interactive content - Facebook on TV being one of the features that many video providers are offering.. not sure where you get your internet from, but FiOS should provide you with a faster speed than you are currently getting, especially if you are getting it from a satellite.. as long as they do not require you to sign a contract I would recommend trying out FiOS for at least 2 or 3 months to see if it is a good fit for your budget and needs...
