What is the difference between 3d tv and 3d ready tv?

On my 3D Tv, what is the difference between SBS and Sensio modes?

  • I have a Vizio 55 inch LED tv. I've downloaded a lot of 3d movies in the SBS side by side format. When I watch them I switch it over to the 3d mode there's the sbs and tb options but there's also sensio. Even though the're sbs, the sensio mode works.... and I don't know if I'm imagining it or not but it seems like it's an even clearer picture than the sbs mode. I hve no idea what sensio is though. Does anyone know what sensio is, and which mode should I be using, sensio or sbs?

  • Answer:

Sensio is a patented 3D format that allows 3D signals to be broadcast at near blu-ray quality. Side-by-side (SBS) or Top/Bottm (TB) compress the 2 left eye/right eye images onto one frame by halving the vertical or horizontal resolution. The TV them de-compresses the images to create the 3D effect - but the result is a noticeably lower resolution picture vs. the original. Sensio, on the other hand, results in a visually lossless 3D image vs. the original. The problem is that there is very little content available in Sensio format currently. However that should change within the next couple of weeks when Sensio launches their video-on-demand service in Sensio 3D format. It's possible that Sensio also decodes the SBS signal slightly better than the standard SBS decoder, but I haven't specifically heard that before. You can find out more on their website: sensio.tv
