How do I attach a digital antenna to my Comcast cable box?

  • I have a Comcast Digital Cable box attached to an HDTV, and I'm interested in the MHZ Worldview global network available on a digital sub-carrier channel (on WGVU Grand Rapids) in my area. I want to know if I can use a cable splitter which has two jacks built in--one for my cable and the other for the digital antenna--built in to the splitter and attached to the cable jack in the back of the cable box.

    An antenna has no application at all with anything associated with Comcast. The only thing you can do with an antenna is connect it directly to the antenna jack on the TV. By the way, there are no "digital" antennas. All TV antennas work the same, both the old and the new. Any mention of "digital" or "HD" in antenna advertising is nothing but marketing bunk. If your cable box has a variety of outputs (HDMI, component, composite), you should be connecting it to your TV by one of those methods, and in that order of preference. You can then connect your antenna to the TV's antenna jack. But if you are using a Comcast DTA box, which only has the RF output (like an antenna jack), then you need an A-B switch for your TV if you also want to use an antenna. See the link for an example. Connect the base port of the switch to your TV's antenna jack, and the other 2 ports to your antenna and to the output of the DTA.

You don't. There's not an ATSC tuner in the Comcast cable box. You need a separate tuner. Also, there's no such thing as a "digital antenna". ATSC is broadcast on the UHF band. A regular antenna works just fine.

How old is the TV you are using? You shouldn't be using the old RF/Coax cable wire to connect the box to the TV. Use S-Video, Component, or HDMI.
