Internet media box needed for TV?
-
I have been looking for a media box for my TV, and I am unsure what to go for. I would like it to have an internet browser, and be able to watch BBC i-player, 4od, ITV player, Chanel 5od, YouTube an so on. It must have free-view HD as well, preferably with a good sized hard drive which I could record programs on two. I have seen the "Boxee Box" but I am not to sure if that's the best, any suggestions would be most helpful as I am sick of hooking up my laptop now an again.

Answer:
Go for a Sony BluRay player, you can plug in a Hard Drive and record, download apps, has a web browser and you will be able to watch BBC i-player, 4od, ITV player, Chanel 5od, YouTube an so on. Then just plug an Arial in and you have Freeview HD too

If you really want to have anything on the internet show up on your TV you basically need your laptop.Media boxes mostly give you some kind of channel line-up not a full blown browser. For example is BBC streaming on the web? It might not be on a media box and you'll need your direct connection for that. In the US the three most popular boxes have been, from easiest to most technical Roku AppleTV Boxee I personally like Roku but I use it to get mainly Netflix. I combine this with an outside antenna to get off air broadcasts.

massively non topic firefox browser has an add on that automatically loads the highest resolution of youtube available, so you skip manually clicking the 360p to 1080p thus if there are "internet media boxes" that use browsers a firefox version could possibly block ads while delivering highest resolution
