What's the best way to connect a computer to a TV?

  • I've decided it's finally time to get rid of my 15" CRT and get a nice big flatscreen HDTV. However, I've also noticed that between hulu, amazon video on demand, and programs like tvants I'm starting to watch more and more media on my computer, so I want to make sure I can watch internet media on my TV. Since I don't own either the TV or the computer yet I do have the advantage of being flexible. What's the best way to connect the computer to the TV? Should I look for a TV with a DVI input? Should I get a video card with component outputs? Can I even get a video card with HDMI output? Is it worth forgetting the TV entirely and just getting a big monitor or will that end up costing more? What's the best option?

    I just bought a new tv that has a PC input using a HD15 cable and a regular audio cable, though my pc also has a s video jack so I could connect it that way, I have tried both and I like using the HD15 cable better because my TV will recognize that it is a PC. If you can find a computer with HDMI out put that would be even better but I have no idea if that exists either. As for just getting a big monitor or TV it depends on how often you would use a TV if you had it.

There are special cords you can get at places like radio shack that can do the job. They'll have the A/V jacks on one side (to go into a TV) and the part that goes in the computer (the big square thing with the screws...not sure of it's name :) ). They're like 10-20 bucks, if I remember right. Good luck!!
