What causes a red glow covering almost all of my tv screen? I have Hitachi rear projection LCD tv?
-
It is a circled-shape and covers almost all of the tv screen. All the images within this circle area have a red glow to them, especially when it is against a white or black background. Normal TV screen should be black when there is no video signal to it. Instead, this TV has a patch of red glow. It is not the TV lamp as i replaced it with a new lamp twice.

Answer:
Several possibilities The most likely is lamp is going bad however you replaced that 2x from I see and no effect. You can rule out the mirror or screen the three colors are merged before that part of the process Most likely the problem in a place you dont want to go. The white light of the LAMP passes thru a prism then 3 different colors are feed to backlight the LCD's Usually problems in this area are loss of brightness or LINES in pix from spiderwebs in the light channels but at the end of this light engine are the 3 LCD's placed in a U shaped arrangement there is a circuit board that determines the bias of the 3 individual LCD's what this means is MASKING of data to increase or decrease brightness its called the RGB drive PCB also called Digital PCB by some manufacturers like Samsung Basically your RED problem is similar to a stereo that still works except there is a HUM in one speaker Technical summary a voltage regulator (three pin device) has alot of voltage on the input with repect to the output dropping the voltage increases the current unfortunately the regulator is BAD. LEAKING so the output voltage is now higher. The red LCD drive circuit is now producing too much light thru the LCD (lack of proper cutoff) when its supposed to darker Expensive TV worth getting it fixed don't hire just anyone LCD light boxes are very complicated the repairman could spend $1000 before stumbling on the problem or WHIMP out and change the whole thing Some companies wont release the PCB to a repairman because they then need to release the service codes to edit the drive settings in new lightbox Panasonic is one of these companies

Check for nearby electromagnetic equipment or any actual physical magnets themselves. I've had a problem like this before and after I got rid of the magnets the glow went away.
