My tv turns on has sound and picture but when i hook up my vcr to it it don't show a picture?

it changes channels and it shows the snow picture anyone know why it won't play my movies or anything

Answer:
You don't say HOW you are connecting the VCR to the TV. With VCRs, they all have (had) an antenna input and an output, and a TV/VCR (or TV/Video) selection button on the remote. The cable/antenna went to the ANT IN connector, and the ANT OUT connector went to the TV. When the VCR is off, or if the TV/Video selector is set to TV, then the TV works normally, and the TV tuner works on all channels. But with the VCR on and the selector set to Video, the TV has to be tuned to Channel 3 or 4 (there is a switch, usually on the back of the VCR, that selects the output channel) and the VCR tuner is used to change channels. This is the simplest form of hookup.
