How To Hook Up Cable To An Old Tv?

  • Don't say call your cable provider because if I wanted to I would have done so instead if posting this question. My mom has an old Sanyo. It's not a flatscreen, LCD, etc. Maybe 1990-ish old but I digress and don't have the model #. We have the EXACT same tv in the front room, though bigger, and we put the cable wire in and got cable. My mom' tv? No...Not even so much as a single channel. Is there anything that I missed out on? How would I hook up the tv?

    make sure its turned to the right channel hook up the old tv to where the other tv works to make sure it does work if it does take it back and recheck your connections make sure your using outs on a splitter if your useing one or the other cable is also hooked up from the souce your gettin the signal it could be one of two thing bad connection or the cable is cut somewhere

Here are a few possibilities: 1. The TV is broke or the cable outlet is disconnected. 2. If her cable company still sends out analog signals, maybe the TV is set for antenna signals. Analog channels above 13 or different for antenna vs cable signals. This will be in the TV's menu, or if it's really old (~1980s) it might have a physical switch behind a panel. 3. Her cable company/location may have switched to all digital signals, in which case she needs a digital box from her cable company. If you had included the city & name of cable company, the information for # 3 is probably an internet search away. For #1, substituting a known working TV is a simple troubleshooting step. A 13" tube TVs is what, maybe $5 at a garage sale?

regular tv channels called with a C....................example..C35. cable tv channels called with an S......................example.S17 check if there is S on its tuner.......if not buy a converter....
