Should I get an LED or an LCD TV?

  • I'm just getting a 32" TV for my bedroom, it will be used almost exclusively for my PS3. Is it worth paying about £80 extra for a LED TV? Are there any benefits except for lower power consumption and smaller size?

    LED if you can afford the difference. The LEDs result in a better brighter picture. They will also last basically, 20 or more years as their life time is the same as for LED flashlights. Many 10s of thousands of hours.

LED is going to be a bit brighter but as you mentioned the big difference between an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and an LED (Light Emitting Diode) is going to be it's energy consumption. One thing to make sure there wont be a big difference in display however is to have your TV calibrated so you can see truer black and brighter colors.

led. they are both "lcd" but the led backlit tvs produce better contrast and whites, near plasma quality. the prices are dropping rapidly so youll have no problem finding a good led that is cost efficient

Personally I would go with LCD. It is generally better than LED is picture quality, and yes it may not look as fancy, but you are not going to really notice the picture quality difference. If you want amazing gaming quality picture I would check out plasmas. They do not last as long and way more expensive, but they are awesome. You are only buying a 32 inch tv as well, so you don't need to go all out unless it is that important to you.

The only difference between LCD and LED is like you said lower power consumption and improved picture quality in the higher end models. Low end LED tvs are no better than LCD tvs. At that point, its just a matter of being able to say you have an LED tv. If you're only gettting a 32", I would buy it and keep the £80. It's not going to be worth it for you.
