Where To Watch Online 3d Movies?

Can you watch 3D movies on a 3D TV without using a 3D player?

  • I am thinking about getting a 3D capable TV so that my kids can watch 3D movies, but someone told me that you need a 3D Blue-Ray player as well. Is this true, or can you watch 3D movies on a 3D TV using a regular blue-ray player?

  • Answer:

Best to get your kids a PS3 (that is also a 3D Bluray player and some games are even in 3D). Some 3DTV's will "fake 3D" from a 2D source, but none of them do it well. This will give your kids headaches. - 17R3W

Nope, you really need a 3D Blu-Ray DVD player. A regular DVD player can not produce 3D images to your television. Only a 3D Blu-Ray DVD can produce 3D movies to your television. Also if you don't have a 3D Blu-Ray DVD player there are many networks that have programming in 3D. Check out directv, or your cable company to see if they broadcasts shows in 3D.

Strictly speaking the answer is yes, provided your 3D TV has built in 2D to 3D conversion capability. Many of the latest models do this. But converted 3D is never going to be as good as native (specially filmed) 3D so this should be seen as an OK bonus rather than the main driver to get a 3D TV. You do really need a 3D Blu Ray. The Blu Ray will let you play 3D movies on disk which you can buy at all the online stores. Amazon is a good example. The good news is that prices are coming down and there are some good deals around. There are also 3D TV channels available which stream 3D content. Some of these do have recent 3D movies in their libraries. Access to a 3D channel depends on where you live - the US has the most 3D channels, UK next, but there is some availability throughout other regions across the world. Recent reports suggest huge growth in channels over the next few years. Another option is using a 3D video on demand service. Samsung recently announced their own free offering. There are a number of others.

technically you can, but not with the picture quality that you are expecting from the 3d movie. your tv can most likely convert it to 3d anyways but it wont look as good as if it were playing it from a 3d bluray player, if you are buying one, panasonic is giving a free copy of avatar in 3d with their players, its the only way to get it in 3d until 2012. you will also need to make sure you have a high speed hdmi cable if you are watching 3d movies on a 3d bluray player on a 3d tv. high speed hdmi from the bluray to the tv and you are set. cheers.
