Why won't my Slim Universal remote control turn on?

Is there such a thing as a universal TV remote control that has a timer to turn ON a televistion at set time?

  • I have a projection television that has a circuit board problem. It works perfectly but requires a "warm up" period of about an hour or two hours before you can see the picture on screen and then after it warms up it is crystal clear. Repair estimates are in the range of almost $400 so I have resolved to buy a new projection television, but want to wait til Black Friday (day after thanksgiving) to get the best deal which is 3 months away. I am looking to find out if anyone knows of a universal remote control that I can set on my coffee table right in front of the TV and allow it to turn the TV on an hour or so before I get home so that by the time I get home the TV can be watched. I have seen something like this MANY moons ago for a VCR, back in the day that would turn the VCR and press record for you in case your VCR didnt have a built in timer. Yes, I know that real old school! At any rate does anyone know if a remote control exists that has a timer function to turn my TV on?

  • Answer:

Yes there are. The function is generally refered to as a wake-up timer. I believe that Sony offers remotes with this function. For example with the Sony AV2500 you can create macros to wake and sleep a number of components.

You can try Philips Pronto Remote Controls. They have two models : RU990 (coloured) & RU960(mono-chrome). Great for your coffee table as they can control more than just your TV, even your DVD player, etc, therefore clear away the cluster of remote controls on your table. As long as there is a remote control for your Projection TV, you can use Philips Pronto Remote control. More details, see webstie: www.acuecomms.com.sg

any timer function will usually be incorperated into the televisions features-you can try a universal remote-but these usually control channel/picture and sound settings-if you can access the t'v.s menu using a universal remote-then you might crack it-but i'd get another television-it sounds to me that your set is too far gone to justify the cost of a new remote control

hey... what id do.. take apart the remote and hook a small watch to both power nodes on each board... set the watch timer for when you want to turn it on... solder the two wires to the two power nodes on each device... so solder the wire from the watch to the actual speaker the alarm comes out of... and then run that wire from the speaker to the i/o of the remote.. its gonna send it a charge to the speaker.. which in turn will actually end a charge to the remote to power it on... hehe cool aye? you understand? email me if you want to go this far.. its really not that hard. this is the same way a time bomb is set to go off...
