Can you get sound through VGA cable?

How do i get sound on my TV when my pc is connected with a VGA cable?

  • my tv is giving out no sound, i tried connecting a audio out cable but nothing seemed to work, does anybody know anything i'm doing wrong?

  • Answer:

The TV ordinarily won't have an audio input associated with the VGA input, which is video only. You don't have a really good option unless you're willing to use an external amplifier and speaker system. If so, you can try connecting the headphone jack on the PC through an adapter (like in the link below) to the input of the amplifier. It's either that or be happy with your PC speakers.

It should have worked, are you sure the audio out is plugged into the headphone jack of the tv. If it still doesn't work you may need to update your driver or get a new soundcard

The television will have video-in sockets (normally yellow for "Composite" video) on it for use when connecting camcorders. These have audio-in connectors associated with them (red & white phono sockets usually). The VGA socket it intended to enable you to use the tv as a large computer monitor. Unless it has audio-in sockets directly associated with it then you cannot get sound in to the tv. The audio-in sockets that are associated with the other video-in sockets may not be active when you have selected the VGA input. This is a feature of your television design and there's nothing you can economically do about it. Consider installing a video card in your PC that provides Composite video output (cost about £20). You should then be able to connect the Composite video to the tv set's Composite input (a yellow phono socket) and the sound to the red/white ones next to the yellow one. That will work. If you see any tv inputs labelled Component ignore them. These are not suitable for computer connections.

Since VGA will not carry audio, people usually pair those cables with a 3.5mm audio cable of the same length. That enables the sound to be carried with the picture. If you are interested in knowing more about 3.5mm cables, we have various lengths available on our website starting at $1.29 for a 1 foot. You can find them here: http://www.firefold.com/35MM-Male-to-Male-Cables-C102.aspx Good luck!

the audio cable needs to be connected via the pc connection on the tv to the earphone jack on the computer it is a single audio cable this will solve your problem
