Tricky one... There are a lot of new models and they all have very similar specs. Samsungs seem to be quite cheap for thier spec, and sony x series are excellent, though pricey. I have a tosh z series regza (about 1200 quid) and it is really good. Clear, hi res, light too.

The best is the Sony X series, with 1080p AND 1080i which means you get the full HD quality on moving pictures such as sports which you don't on many tv's. I have one, my dad has one, it's a top quality, well built, reliable, presitge LCD screen with a multitude of facilities, sockets, etc and it's won just about every award going from all the top magazines. It's by no way the cheapest and because of that couldn't ever be given the 'best value for money' tag but my (official) SKY HD installer said it gives the best picture he has seen on any tv. I paid £2,500 with a 5 years guarentee 9 months ago so aim for around that or lower. As always, you get what you pay for and if you want the best then this is it.

The best I've seen is the 40" 1080p lcd from samsung with 120Hz. It has the best picture I have ever seen on any tv, at least as far as motion is concerned. I think the 40 in. model costs just over $2,000. There is also a 46" version.

You have been mis-informed. There are NO 1080p televison transmissions in the UK&I. The HD standard is 1080i/720p. As for which is best, well that's very subjective. It depends on what features you're looking for. In terms of picture quality the major manufacturers (Panasonic, Sony, Philips etc) are very much alike. You're looking at upwards from £900 for a good one. I would not touch the cheaper 'strange brand' ones that you can see in supermarkets and similar shops with a barge pole. Not many LCD sets in that size though.
