Is 20,000 1 a high contrast ratio?

Easy 10 points, Does anyone know what the contrast ratio on LCD TVs is for..?

  • What does the contrast ratio on LCD TVs measure? I just want to know if there is a huge difference between like a 20000:1 contrast ratio to a 50000:1 contrast ratio.

  • Answer:

Yeah the higher number sells more tv's, actually contrast ratio is more of a marketing gimmick, the human eye can only see about 800:1 at any given time, example, if your in a really dark room and you eyes have adjusted to it, you can deciphere things pretty well, then go imediatly into full sun light, you cant see anything , ntil your eyes adjust, if you could see 20000:1 or 50000:1 you would always be able to see clear all the time with no blur or haze, companys like to market there tv's as the highest contrast ratio because bigger numbers sell more tv's, ive seen 1,000,000,000.:1, or even companies coming up with naming gimmicks like "uber contrast", dont get sucked in, look at very high end video products ie RUNCO, you wont see them advertising, based on contrast ratio or lumens, that doesnt make a great picture, some companies even use metric number now to increase the number on the box to sell more tv's

Larger contrast ratios mean the TV can make darker black and more dazzling white at the same time. You can tell the difference by looking at them side by side. See a few in person and see what is acceptable for you. Usually plasma sets have a higher ratio than LCD TV's can. Plasma sets have other drawbacks though.
