How do i get my pc-screen to my Tv?

NEW HD TV CAN'T get hd channels. Please help?

  • I have an Insignia 42" full hd 60hz tv and I have basic Road Runner cable. I have had this tv for about 2 years and this tv gets HD channels. For example channel 11 is pbs. 11-1 is pbs HD and PBS-2 is another pbs station. Then ABC is channel 10 it is in standard def on channel 10 but then channel 10-1 is HD. This is all fine this is what we like. We have a 3 way caoxial splitter. The cable only comes in through 1 spot in the house. The original cable that comes through the wall is plugged into the 3 way splitter. It splits to Our cable modem for internet, Our Insignia TV and our NEW Hannspree 42" full HD 120HZ. The coaxial cord that goes from the splitter to the NEW Hannspree Tv is 30ft and about 5 years old. We set the TV up a few days ago and it does not have any of the -1, -2 or -3 channels. It onlys has the normal 1 through 22 channels. So it isn't picking up HD signal but our Insignia does. We do NOT have a hd tv cable box or any type of box at all for that matter. The picture on the Hannspree looks amzing when playing videogames and netflix through our PS3 with HDMI, but it just won't pick up our Cable TV signals. Thank you for any help anyone can get us. We just would like HD TV signals to get through to our NEW TV. Thanks again.

  • Answer:

Check the specifications on the Hannspree to see if it has a "QAM" tuner. All new TVs in the U.S. are required to have an NTSC tuner for analog cable and an ATSC tuner for over-the-air digital reception, but the QAM tuner--the one you need for digital channels on cable, like 10.1, 11.1, etc.--is optional. It is not included on cheaper sets, and both Insignia and Hannspree are in that category. From your given symptoms, that's almost certainly the cause. Less likely but not impossible: make sure the Hannspree has been optioned in its menu for CABLE service, not AIR or ANTENNA. If you find it on the latter, change it to CABLE and try a channel scan. If the set has a QAM tuner, that will solve it.
