How do you unlock channels on freeview?

Some help on sky freeview channels plz?

  • hello, hoping for a little help. We have got a sky box and we paid the subscription until 2008, after that the subscription expired and we didnt renew so since then have bee sticking to the 'freeview' channels. Recently, it seems though some of the channels will not work i.e a few of the music channels and also some international. A friend however has done the same with his subscription and all his channels are working fine?! Also, everytime we have a little bit of windy conditions or rain, most of the other channels start messing up and then a msg comes up saying no satellite being received. I mean i expect severe windy conditions or torrential downpours to have some sort of affect to the dish but seriously, the slightest of wind or rain wrecks the viewing. Again, my friends works fine, no problems, all channels appear crystal clear. I did have a look at our dish the other day and compared to our neighbours, our dish is positioned lower - everyone else's in our row is higher and in the same position more or less and then ours is lower down - could this have something to do with the channels being affected easily in wind and rain? and what about the channels that have completely disappeared? Any help/ suggestions would be very much appreciated x

chances are your dish is very, very slightly off line.the lnb could be falling but sounds more like the dish ever so slightly off

Wind can cause a dish to wander although it's less likely with a Sky minidish that a bigger solid dish. It's difficult to tell how adjacent dishes are set up with respect to yours apart from the general direction and the fact you are getting some channels means it's not to far off if at all. Go into the installation menu and check the signal strength and signal quality. If the signal strength is much less than 90% and or the signal quality is under 40% then the dish may be off or your LNB (the lump the cable comes out of) is on the way out. Friend of mine had a similar problem and the LNB was in terminal decline. As for channels going for a walk there is a temporary satellite up there and some channels have played musical chairs which is easy to take care of with a free to air box by doing a re-tune but not with a Sky box without a Freesat from Sky (£20, kerching, one off payment) card. I'd recommend you splash out on a Freesat or free to air HD satellite receiver and a new dish. B&Q were doing an HD receiver/dish pair for £75. There other deals around such as from Maplin. If your LNB needs replaced that will cost £20 anyway which is a nearly a third of the way to a new HD box and dish setup.

Have you retuned recently? If not, try that to get the channels working again. You could try adjusting the dish.

Could be any of several things. Faulty box, loose connection/faulty scart, LNB or dish out of alignment, tree branches blocking signal, water ingress in the cabling. Have you checked the signal strength? If you could borrow your friends box to try on your system, you would find out if your box is the problem. http://www.satcure.co.uk/digirep.htm
