Is there a TV better or similar to the KURO?

Pioneer Kuro 42" Plasma TV - Is it any good? HD Ready or Full HD?

  • I want to replace my 10 year old tube with a new flat, high definition TV, preferably a plasma! The vendor has shown me the Pioneer Kuro 42"! It looks really nice, but I'm not sure wether it's a "true" HDTV or not because the resolution is only 1024x768? Should I go with HD Ready or get a Full HD TV? I will use it to play PS3 games, watch DVDs, Blurays, and ordinary TV Channels of course! Thanks for your help.

    I suggest you pick up the most recent copy of Consumer Reports. They do a whole section on flat panel reviews. Different models within the same brand are of different quality. Consumer Reports gives the best ones out there, and if you're going to spend that much, you should get your money's worth. Pioneer was considered a good brand, but like I said, different models differ in quality. The 1020i or 1020p is called "full HD", but 720p is also HD. There are just more pixels in the 1020s, which gives a clearer picture.

First of all, go with a full hd tv. You're playing games and using all of your hd capable components, might as well get the full experience out of them. Second, decide wether you want lcd or plasma depending on what size you are looking at. After you have a size range and a specific range of specifications, choose the ones you really like, maybe your top 5, and research those extensively. Go into the store, ask to see the models and how they handle what youre going to be doing. Go in with an open mind and dont worry about making the "wrong" choice because technology is becoming such a level playing field that there wont be a bad choice.
