How to stop broadcast service in Linux?

How can I improve my Digital reception?

• We live about 50 miles from two metropolitan broadcast areas. We have used a rooftop antenna to improve the analog signal, and that has served very well. We now have a digital HD TV and can receive a few Digital stations that are broadcast from the same stations as the analog. The problem is these digital stations break up, stop/start and often loosing signal altogether. Once all TV is broadcast in Digital I can only assume that we basically will no longer be able to watch TV because it seems that the Digital stations are not as strong as the analog broadcasts. I guess they will not be providing service to people living beyond the metropolitan area. Cable will never be offered where we live and Dish are not allowed. Anyway I see no reason to pay $100 a month for more commercials than normal TV. Is there some sort of booster available that will enable these digital broadcast to reach us?

  Sounds like you just need a better antenna. I live over 60 miles from the Sacramento antennas and can pick up all the major broadcast stations. You should check antennaweb.org http://www.antennaweb.org Go to the "Choose an antenna" page and enter your address. It will tell you all the stations you can get and what kind of antenna you'll need. You said you're 50 miles from TWO metro areas. It sounds like you may also need a rotor to point the antenna. Fringe antennas tend to be directional. If all of your stations are on UHF channels (14 and up) you may be able to use a Yagi or a multi-bay screen antenna like the Channel-Master 4228. These are more compact than a long-boom VHF/UHF antenna, and may be more acceptable if you have some community CC&R restrictions.
