How to hook up HD Dish to HDTV?

I have dish network and am wanting to know if my locals that I receive will be shown in HD?

  • I recently purchased a hdtv. I have s-video from the satellite receiver now. direct tv is coming sunday to hook up new HD service. until then can I see local HD programming through dish or do I need an over the air antenna?

  • Answer:

The first thing you may need to know is that the s-video cable is incapable of HD. You will either need to buy Y/Pr/Pb cables and use RCA cables for you sound or preferably by a HDMI cable. The HDMI is pricey. iviatticus is correct is saying that you will need a 211, 222, 622, or 811 receive HD through a DISH Network system. However, you may not need to sign up for the HD package. If your local channels broadcast in HD, then you can run an antenna to the back where it says "ant/cable in" this will feed the Off-air HD stations into your programming. However, you will need to pay for a $6 enabling fee. Last thing if your TV has a built in HD decoder in it. Why not just run an antenna to the back of it and by pass the DISH?

It depends on where you're located. But these days, unless you live in the middle of nowhere you should get them through your sat provider. weeder

You will need the HD box to view HD content from Dish Network. You can not view HD content from DISH without it. If you can't wait til Sunday, you will need an antenna to grab the OTA HD signals.

If you buy the HD package then YES..... I just saw one of my customers with DISH HD...he had all the local stations and substations on his unit, and he lives in Boondock city....
