RCA 42" Screen Gone Black W/ TV Sound There.?
-
Recently me and my family turned on our RCA 42" TV and as we were in search of a TV show the TV went black but you could still here the TV show in the background. And it is completely black as if the TV were to be off. Did we accidentally press a button, is there a button to bring it back to normal. We turned the TV off and turned it back on but no luck.

Answer:
Test the TV with different inputs: over-the-air antenna, DVD player, game box, cable or satellite box, etc. Picture missing with only one input? You’ve partially solved it: bad source, jack, or cable. Picture missing on every input? First, unplug the TV and leave it alone for 15 minutes or so, then plug it back in and try it. Sometimes a cold restart will solve these problems, just like with your computer. No help? See if you can at least bring up the menu. If you can, check your owner's guide for the procedure to reset the TV to its factory default settings, then do it. If you can't do that, and if the TV is an LCD set (not LED), chances are its backlight has failed. Try this: dim the lights in the room, get very close to the TV while it's operating (you have sound on a channel), and shine a flashlight on the screen. If you can faintly see the picture, you've lost the set's backlight. The problem is either the backlight inverter, something else that controls or powers the backlight, or the fluorescent backlight itself. It's a job for a repair center, and if the set isn’t under warranty, you may find that the repair expense would be better invested in a new set with a new warranty and the latest features.

Try to unplug it for 2 minutes or so, if your TV has internal ram which holds settings it will refresh. If that doesn't work, try to find a reset button on the back of the TV. Otherwise, just play around with buttons on the remote. If all else fails, the video controller or inverter may be blown. Look at the screen and see if you can very faintly see anything on the screen, if not, try bringing a torch up to it.
does it have a reset button....push it......if no....unplug it for a minute and then plug it..... if it is also on black screen.....there is a trouble on VIDEO circuit....call rca service.
