How much is a Sony WEGA TV worth?

I am buying a Sony 36" Wega TV for $100. Is it worth it?

  • The Model is KV-36FV15 and it's flat screen tube. I have always seen that Sony makes top of the line tube televisions. However, when I searched I have found that Wega's have a lot of problems but that's off reviews. I kind of feel that the only people that leave reviews are people with bad reviews. For instance, I have a good tv at home so I don't go online and look for reviews but if I have a problem that's the first thing I do. The tv is used but in great condition. I have seen the same tv online selling used for $300-$400, so it looks like I am getting a deal. Is Sony Wega good or bad? Thanks for your time.

If this one is working good, it does sound like a good deal.

If the TV isn't very old, and is in very good condition, it can be a good deal. Just realize that this isn't a HDTV. It's just a 4:3 TV that can do progressive scan (480p) but nothing higher than that. A friend of mine has that same model of TV, and has never had any problems with it the years he's had it, so this could be a good deal if you're looking for a 4:3 TV. One word of caution - being a CRT, that TV weighs a LOT. You will want at least 3 or 4 people to help you move it. You will also want to make sure you have a very stable and secure place to put this thing since it's about 300lbs. I'd highly recommend getting one of those earthquake strap kits, even if you don't live in an earthquake zone.

I know someone with sony tube and it's alright with him. If you are satisfied with non HD tv and ok with perhaps needing a converter box for hdtv channels for over the air broadcast only then go ahead. It's no guarantee any tv will perform .But you don't need a converter box if you have cable or satellite. It is a good deal for that price but if you don't mind the space it takes up ,the weight and non hdtv then go for it.

I have had a number of Wegas without any problems at all. The tube TVs are fast becoming a thing of the past, but at $100, I think that is a pretty good deal.

I cannot speak for that specific model, but I have a Sony 34" widescreen Flat Tube HDTV, a Wega, and it is an awesome TV, displaying standard and HD both beautifully. It has given me nothing less than 100% perfect reliable service in over 3 years of ownership, and quite possibly the nicest HD picture of it's size I've ever seen. BTW, I've seen these Sony HDTV Tube TVs on craigslist for $200 - $300 if you don't mind moving them, as they are heavy. Mostly because people are buying big screens and want to get rid of them. You could probably get one of the HDTV Wegas for $100 if you bargain. UPDATE: You may not have to pay extra for HD service. My cable company now includes HD versions of many channels for no additional cost.
