New 720p TV has poorer quality than old CRT TV...why?
-
Recently purchased a 32'' LCD TV. I used to have a 26" cathode ray tube TV. The picture quality on the new television is horrible. I don't have HD channels or wires, but shouldn't the resolution be the same as my old TV? Is there a way to make the resolution of my new TV not so glitchy/blurry? My channels come through digital cable box, rather than over the air. If I can't solve this problem, it is very tempting to just return the new TV since it is worse than my older version. I appreciate the answers. -Thanks

Answer:
A new LCD without being used as a Hi Def receiver will probably not look as good as your old TV. If you do connect to a Hi Def source you will see an enormous difference for the better..Your old TV in good condition would show the scanning lines it was so clear. If you connect to a HD source I am sure you will be happier. If you don't connect to a HD source I would surely take it back for a refund. If you do connect to a HD source make sure you buy and use the HDMI cable.

Your complaint is a common one for anyone who buys a new high def TV but continues to get the old standard def programming. The simple fact is that the new TV is much more sharp and larger than your old TV and now you can see all the defects that always existed in the standard def signal. Literally, you old TV was bad enough that the defects were hidden. Don't do something absurd like returning the TV, which there is nothing wrong with. Either get high def programming or at least get an antenna so you can get some broadcast high def. You will not be sorry.

you need hd programing for the tv to look the way it did in the store.

You could adjust the settings on the new tv to where it isnt in widescreen and put it on 4:3 where it will be square like your old tv. Otherwise it wont look good because you are stretching SD signal.

Turn on the mpeg booster if your tv has that option. Set it to max setting. My sony lcd tv looked jagged when i turned it off .
