Can I get a better signal than 480i?

I just got a new HDTV and when I get my playstation 3 or xbox 360 on its always says AV 480i and its a 720p tv?

  • Answer:

Are you feeding the PS or XBOX into the set on its A-V jacks (yellow-red-white)? If yes, that's a standard-def input. You won't get anything more than 480i that way. For an HD image from the game box, you need to use an HD input, preferably HDMI. If you are already using an HDMI input, then the TV is reporting the resolution of the signal being fed into it. It has nothing to do with the native resolution of your set's screen (720p).
