How can I make an old 27" tube TV die faster?

  • We have a 20 year old Sony 27" CRT TV in our living room. This thing is a beast and has still not died after 20 years. It's really incredible. This TV is huge and it taking up a lot of space in the living room. We have a nice flat screen TV in the family room and we really don't need this old huge tube anymore. However, my parents are like "Just leave it there and we'll get rid of it when it eventually dies." The problem is- it won't die. And keep in mind...my parents are just as anxious for this TV to die as me. None of us want it. We have four TVs in the hour already. My parents just don't like throwing stuff out. So now... since my parents don't want to throw out this old tube TV, is there any way I can help this TV die sooner so we can finally get rid of it? Keep in mind...I AM *NOT* ASKING HOW TO BREAK THE TV. I am asking how to wear the TV out faster. Like what would wear out the phosphors of the TV faster. Should I watch more often? Sound like the most logical answer, but that doesn't seem to be wearing the TV out, lol, as it's already 20 years old. Any input would be great appreciated.

  • Answer:

I am sure the colors are already gone (is Red actually red or orange?), so any reasonable person, with some sense of picture quality would declare it gone long time ago... Since you have newer TVs, I am sure you can see how real colors should look like !! (If not, then you deserve to keep that TV).
