How can i change my tv screen resolution when i connect my laptop to it?

i plugged my laptop up to my tv so i can watch a movie from my netflix account.the screen on the tv is tiny!my tv is like 40 something inches i think..i tried changing the settings from my tv remote but it wont do anything..im not sure how to explain what i want tho..lol i want my tv screen to be..full screen when i plug my laptop into it.it only shows it on a small box in the middle of the screen. how can i change that?

You change the laptop to match the native resolution of the TV, not the TV to match the laptop. These days, laptops can do that fairly easily.
